Man flees after allegedly stabbing cousin to death in Lagos

A tragic incident unfolded in Lagos State as a man, identified as Ganiyu Ibrahim, is reportedly on the run after allegedly stabbing his cousin, Afeez Akeem, during a heated argument.
The confrontation, which took place on October 14, 2024, has left the community in shock.
According to the Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the dispute between the cousins escalated into a violent altercation.
During the fight, Ibrahim allegedly broke a bottle and stabbed Akeem in the chest, inflicting fatal wounds. Akeem was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead by medical personnel upon arrival.

The altercation was confirmed in a statement from Hundeyin, who revealed that the incident was reported by a family member:
“Today, 14/10/2024, at about 7 PM, a complainant reported that her son, Ganiyu Ibrahim, and her nephew, Afeez Akeem, had a misunderstanding that led to a physical fight. Ganiyu broke a bottle and stabbed Afeez on the left side of his chest. The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.”
While investigators have already begun looking into the scene of the crime, Ibrahim fled immediately after the incident, leaving authorities in pursuit. Meanwhile, the family of the deceased has opted against an autopsy, choosing to proceed with burial arrangements in line with Islamic traditions.
The Lagos State Police have launched a manhunt to apprehend Ibrahim, with investigations still ongoing.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of how conflicts can escalate into irreversible tragedy, and authorities urge the public to report any information that may assist in the swift arrest of the suspect.
