Rema features on Glo Sponsored African Voices Changemakers

Nigerian Afrobeat sensation and award-winning artist Rema will be the guest on this week’s edition of African Voices Changemakers, a magazine show aired on CNN International and sponsored by Globacom, a leading telecommunications and digital services company.

The 24-year-old star, born Divine Ikubor in Edo State, discovered his passion for music early on by singing in his church and rapping to entertain his peers at Ighile Group of Schools, where he attended secondary school.

Rema’s journey to fame began after he posted a freestyle of D’Prince’s hit track Gucci Gang on Instagram, which quickly gained attention. D’Prince, impressed by his talent, flew him to Lagos and offered him a recording contract with Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records, owned by renowned music producer Don Jazzy. His breakout single, Dumebi, released in 2019, was the first result of that deal.

In 2022, his track Calm Down gained international acclaim, eventually leading to a remix featuring American pop star Selena Gomez. The song dominated the Billboard Afrobeats Songs chart and held a record-breaking 58-week streak, peaking at number three on the Billboard Hot 100.

Rema’s musical success has earned him numerous awards, including the Billboard Music Award for Top Afrobeats Song and the MTV Video Music Award for Best Afrobeats Video.

Recently, Rema performed at the prestigious Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris on October 30, 2023, and was honored during a London concert on November 7, 2022, for surpassing one billion streams worldwide.

The African Voices Changemakers episode featuring Rema will air on Saturday at 8:30 a.m., with repeats scheduled for noon the same day. Additional broadcasts will air on Sun
