Nigerian gov donates 10 000 for reconstruction of mosque in Niger Republic

One of the governors in the northern part of the country, Dikko Radda of Katsina, has donated $10,000 to support the reconstruction of a 200-year-old mosque in Damagaram, Niger Republic, following its recent collapse.

The governor’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ya’u Umar Gwajo-Gwajo, made this known during a press briefing in Katsina on Friday.

Gwajo-Gwajo, who also holds the title of Turankin Damagaran, said the donation reflects Governor Radda’s commitment to fostering both social and spiritual development.

The Sultan of Damagaram, Abubakar Sanda-Umau, expressed gratitude for the donation, noting that it will facilitate the construction of a modern mosque to replace the historic structure.

“This gesture will further strengthen the centuries-old bond between Katsina and Damagaram, which has been sustained for over 500 years,” the Sultan said, according to Gwajo-Gwajo.

Gwajo-Gwajo explained that Governor Radda’s interest in the reconstruction project stems from his dedication to promoting the well-being of the people in both Katsina and the wider Niger Republic.

“The governor is keen on improving the social and spiritual lives of the people of Damagaram and Niger Republic as a whole. This mosque will play a key role in fostering Islamic moral values and help address various social challenges within the community.

“We are a united people separated only by artificial borders, and it is crucial for us to reinforce our bilateral relations and tackle our shared issues collectively,” Gwajo-Gwajo added.
