Rivers crisis: Jonathan, wife didn’t make me politically, says Wike

In Tuesday’s appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, opened up about the role former First Lady Patience Jonathan played in his political career.

While Wike expressed deep appreciation for her support, he firmly stated that his political rise was not shaped by the Jonathan family alone.

Wike, who served as Minister of State for Education from July 2011 to April 2014, acknowledged Patience Jonathan’s influence during that period.

He highlighted her assistance but stressed that his political trajectory involved more than just her backing.

“It would be unfair before the Almighty God to say that Patience Jonathan never supported me. I don’t have the blood to say somebody who supported me did not,” Wike said.

However, he was quick to clarify that while her support was valuable, his success in politics was not entirely due to the Jonathan family.

Wike’s statement strikes a balance, giving credit where due, but also underscoring his independence in his political journey.
