Gunmen launched a brutal attack on an army camp in Ehime-Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, reportedly killing numerous soldiers on Tuesday night.

The attackers stormed the camp, chanting battle songs and setting several military operational vehicles ablaze.

In a video circulating online, the gunmen, who referred to themselves as “the angels,” boldly declared their dominance over the area.

“We are the angels. The angels are here. The army has run away. Why are they running? They should stand and face us. We are live at Ehime-Mbano army camp. Today is the 8th of October, we are the angels. We have come to take over,” they chanted.

As of the time of this report, neither the Nigerian Army nor the Police have issued an official statement regarding the incident.

This attack follows a similar wave of violence in the region, including the burning of the home of Senator Frank Ibezim, a former lawmaker representing Okigwe senatorial zone, as well as the National Open University centre in Ezeoke Nsu, Ehime-Mbano.

The rising tension and repeated assaults in Imo State have raised concerns about the deteriorating security situation in the region.
