1 feared killed, scores injured as explosion rocks Delta

A tragic explosion in Sapele Metropolis, Delta State, has resulted in the death of one person and left several others injured.

The incident occurred around 6 PM on Tuesday at a local dump site frequently visited by scavengers searching for scrap items.

Eyewitnesses suggest that the explosion may have been caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) brought to the dump site by one of the scavengers, who was among the deceased.

In addition to the fatality, at least two individuals, along with several residents in the vicinity, sustained serious injuries from the blast.

He said, “They are currently receiving medical treatment”, the eyewitness said.

“The explosion has left the area in shock and mourning”.
