 Another Nigerian gov declares public holiday ahead of LG elections

In preparation for the upcoming Local Government elections scheduled for Saturday, October 5, the Benue State government has declared Friday, October 4, as a work-free day.

This move is aimed at allowing residents to participate fully in the electoral process by providing them with adequate time to travel to their respective local government areas.

Governor Hyacinth Alia made the declaration on Thursday, October 3, through a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula.

The governor emphasized that the public holiday would enable the electorate to exercise their civic rights, highlighting the importance of active participation in the democratic process.

Governor Alia also called on the citizens of Benue State to take advantage of this opportunity and ensure their participation in the elections.

He urged the electorate to approach the polls peacefully, adhere to security protocols, and contribute to a smooth election process.

This work-free day is expected to boost voter turnout and ensure that residents can engage in the democratic process without the constraints of work-related responsibilities.

Platinumpost also reported that, Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has declared Thursday and Friday as public holidays to allow residents to travel to their respective communities ahead of the upcoming local government elections on Saturday.

In addition, a strict restriction on vehicular movement will be enforced from midnight on Friday, October 4, until 5pm on election day.

Platinumpost reports that, as the elections draw near, the Benue State government continues to stress the importance of peaceful and orderly conduct during the polls, urging all residents to play their part in strengthening democracy at the local level.
