Suspected herdsmen kill 2 soldiers, 7 villagers in Benue

In a devastating incident, suspected herdsmen have reportedly killed two soldiers and seven villagers, including the village head of Eguma community, in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
Audu Sule, a former lawmaker who represented the local government in the Benue State House of Assembly from 2011 to 2019, spoke to Channels Television, detailing the attack.
He stated that the herdsmen invaded Eguma village around 3 PM on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, launching a violent assault on the community.
According to Sule, military personnel stationed in the nearby village of Ogwule responded to the distress call from Eguma.

However, during the intervention, two soldiers lost their lives, alongside the village head and six other villagers, bringing the total casualties to nine.
This incident marks the fourth attack on Eguma and Ogwule villages in just a month, highlighting the persistent security threats faced by residents.
Sule expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence and the dangers posed to the local communities. Although military intervention resulted in a gun battle with the suspected herdsmen, they managed to flee the scene after the tragic loss of life.
